TECHNOLOGICAL CONVERGENCE
(1) Technological convergence is the process by which existing technologies merge into new forms that bring together different types of media and applications. New devices and technology usually handle one medium or accomplish some basic tasks; through technological convergence, devices can interact with a wider array of media types.
(2) Technology convergence is the unification of previously disparate technological systems on a singular device. The benefits of a converged device are the ability to perform a variety of tasks to share resources and interact with other programs and devices in a synergistic manner.
 (3) The tendency that as technology changes, different technological systems sometimes evolve toward performing similar tasks.

(1) WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a specification for a set of communication protocols to standardize the way that wireless devices, such as cellular telephones and radio transceivers, can be used for Internet access, including e-mail, the World Wide Web, newsgroups, and instant messaging. While Internet access has been possible in the past, different manufacturers have used different technologies. In the future, devices and service systems that use WAP will be able to inter-operate. (2) A set of technologies developed by a consortium of mobile telephony equipment vendors that is designed to bring Web content to wireless handheld communication devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and mobile phones. These devices are too small to easily display or allow users to interact with regular Web content. Typical uses for WAP-enabled devices might be to access stock market information, perform online banking, access inventory and sales information for sales quotes, and exchange information with business partners.
